Heart Rate Troubleshooting Guide

If your heart rate looks too high, too low, or has gaps, this guide will help you find out why. Most heart rate issues have a simple fix.

Before anything else: how are you wearing the band?

✅ Position: One finger-width above the wrist bone, not on the bone itself
✅ Contact: Sensor panel flat against your skin, not rotated to the side
✅ Fit: Snug but not loose. It should not shift when you move your wrist

If any of these are off, reposition the band and take a new reading. See [How to Wear Your Band Correctly].

First question: is it off at rest, or mainly during exercise?

This tells you which steps to follow.

If it's off at rest

Step 1 — Take a live reading. Background readings are taken every few minutes, not continuously. The number in the app may not be your heart rate right now. For a current reading, use One-Key Measurement in the QWatch Pro app.

Step 2 — Sit still. Rest for 2–3 minutes. Keep your arm relaxed and still during the reading.

Step 3 — Clean the sensor. Wipe the underside of the band with a soft, damp cloth. Sweat, lotion and sunscreen can block the sensor.

Step 4 — Warm your hands. Cold skin reduces blood flow and can give low or patchy readings.

Step 5 — Try a slightly different spot. Move the band about 1 cm up your arm. Tattoos or very hairy skin under the sensor can affect readings.

If it's off during exercise

Fast arm movement makes it harder for any wrist sensor to read accurately. This is true of all wrist wearables. Weights, boxing, rowing and running can cause jumps or dips.

  • Use Exercise Mode. Start a session in Sports Record before you begin. This measures heart rate continuously. Background mode does not.
  • Tighten the strap a little during workouts.
  • Try the bicep strap for activities with lots of wrist movement.

Common scenarios and what they mean

"It says 150 while I'm sitting down"
A sudden spike at rest usually means the sensor lost contact for a moment. It's not a real reading. Check your fit and take a One-Key Measurement.

"There are gaps in my heart rate graph"
Small gaps are normal because readings are taken at intervals. Longer gaps usually mean the band was loose, off your wrist, charging, or out of battery.

"It doesn't match my chest strap"
Chest straps measure your heart's electrical signal. The band measures blood flow at the wrist. Small differences are normal, especially during exercise.

"It's lower than I expected overnight"
Resting heart rate is at its lowest during sleep. This is normal.

⚠️ When to seek medical help

If you have a very high or very low heart rate along with chest pain, dizziness, fainting, shortness of breath, or a racing or pounding heart, contact a doctor or emergency services straight away. Don't rely on the band.
